Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Candidate is a job platform built in Kigali by the Candidate Platform Team as part of the Rwanda Build Program. In this policy, "Candidate", "we" and "us" mean the platform and the team that runs it. "You" means anyone who visits the website or uses the mobile app.

2. Information we collect

We only collect what we need to run the platform. Depending on how you use Candidate, this can be:

• Account information: your name, email address and account identifier, received from the sign-in service when you sign in or sign up.
• Profile information: first, middle and last name, date of birth, gender, nationality, phone number, location, profile photo, and links you add such as LinkedIn, Twitter, GitHub or a personal website.
• Resume/CV information: preferred job title, industry, category, job area and salary, personal goals, work experience, education, projects, skills, languages and short pitches you write.
• Job seeking activity: the jobs you follow, the jobs you apply for, your application status, and your answers to interview invitations.
• Employer information: if you apply to become a job creator, your organization name, email, phone number, location and LinkedIn or portfolio link, and the jobs you post.
• Interview information: the date, time, location or meeting link of interviews that employers schedule with applicants.
• Notifications: the messages the platform sends you about your applications, jobs and account.
• Technical information: basic information your browser or device sends when it connects (such as device type, browser, and the time of the request), and a sign-in token stored on your device so you stay signed in.

3. How we use your information

• To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
• To build your Resume/CV and show it to the employers whose jobs you apply for.
• To match you with jobs that fit your preferences, skills and experience.
• To let employers post jobs, review applicants, shortlist them and schedule interviews.
• To review job creator applications and job posts before they are published.
• To send you notifications about applications, interviews, jobs and your account.
• To keep the platform safe, prevent misuse, fix problems and improve how it works.
• To meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Who can see your information

• Employers: when you apply for a job, the employer who posted it can see your profile, your Resume/CV and your application. Employers only see the applicants of their own jobs.
• Other visitors: job posts are public, including the employer name and the job location. Your profile and Resume/CV are not public.
• Candidate administrators: our team can see account, job creator and job information to review applications, approve jobs and support users.
• Service providers: companies that help us run Candidate, such as hosting, the sign-in service, realtime notifications (Pusher) and maps (Mapbox). They only receive what they need to provide their service.
• Authorities: when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the platform.

5. Sharing a job

When you share a job through WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Facebook or another app, you send the job link to that service yourself. That service then handles the link under its own privacy policy.

6. How we store and protect your information

Your information is stored on secured servers and sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access is limited to the people and services that need it. No system is completely secure, so please keep your sign-in details private and tell us if you think your account has been misused.

7. How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information, unless we need to keep part of it for a legal reason or to resolve a dispute.

8. Your rights and choices

• See and update your profile and Resume/CV at any time from My Account.
• Leave optional parts of your profile and Resume/CV empty.
• Stop following jobs at any time.
• Ask for a copy of your information, its correction, or the deletion of your account by writing to support@candidate.rw.
• Object to or ask us to limit how we use your information.

These rights follow Rwanda’s Law N° 058/2021 relating to the protection of personal data and privacy. We answer requests within 30 days.

9. Children

Candidate is meant for people aged 16 and older who are looking for work or hiring. We do not knowingly collect information from younger children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

10. Cookies and local storage

We use a cookie and your device storage to keep you signed in and to remember small settings. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Candidate changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. When a change is important, we will tell you on the platform before it applies.
